MGL Cargo Services Marks 20 Years as Egyptian Forwarder Targets Next Phase of Global Growth

MGL Cargo Services is marking its 20th anniversary in 2026, two decades after the Egyptian freight forwarder began operations in Cairo, as the company prepares to expand its international reach and build on its project cargo and multimodal logistics business.

Founded in 2006, MGL has developed a portfolio spanning ocean and air freight, international trucking, customs brokerage, dangerous goods, cargo insurance and project logistics. The company operates from locations in Cairo and Alexandria, including an office at Cairo International Airport, and also maintains a presence in Saudi Arabia.

The anniversary comes as freight forwarders face changing trade patterns, tighter supply chains and growing demand for logistics providers capable of coordinating complex cargo across multiple transport modes.

Two decades built around international freight

MGL said its development over the past 20 years had been supported by long term relationships with clients, overseas agents, business partners and employees.

The company’s activities extend beyond conventional containerised and air freight. Its project logistics work includes breakbulk and out of gauge cargo, chartering, port operations, customs clearance and inland transportation.

Previous assignments illustrate the type of cargo involved. MGL has handled movements including large industrial tanks between Egypt and Morocco and a 52 tonne cargo unit shipped from Antwerp to Matadi in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Such shipments require coordination between road authorities, ports, carriers, lifting contractors and customs agencies, particularly when cargo dimensions exceed conventional container limits.

MGL has also handled industrial and project cargo shipments from Egypt to Algeria and other international destinations, strengthening a business segment where detailed transport planning and coordination can determine whether cargo moves on schedule.

Partnerships underpin international reach

For independent freight forwarders, overseas agency relationships provide much of the infrastructure needed to compete internationally without maintaining offices in every market.

MGL highlighted those partnerships as a central part of its anniversary, thanking customers, overseas agents, colleagues and business partners for their cooperation during the company’s first two decades.

The Cairo based forwarder has continued to develop relationships with international logistics networks and overseas freight specialists. Such connections allow independent operators to coordinate origin and destination services across markets while retaining local control over customs, transport and cargo handling.

The model is particularly relevant for project cargo, where shipments can involve several contractors and transport modes before reaching their final destination.

MGL targets expansion after 20 year milestone

The company said its next phase would focus on innovation, operational performance and further expansion of its international footprint while maintaining existing service standards.

That strategy places MGL in a freight market where digitalisation, cargo visibility and closer coordination between forwarders, carriers and terminals are becoming increasingly important alongside traditional forwarding expertise.

For MGL, the anniversary therefore marks more than a corporate milestone. It represents the transition from a business established in Cairo in 2006 to a freight forwarder handling conventional and specialised cargo through an international network of partners.

The company said it intends to build on those relationships as it enters its third decade, with continued emphasis on international cooperation and the expansion of its logistics and project cargo activities.
