Star Shipping, our Pakistan member, has successfully managed two major vessel operations at Karachi Port and Port Qasim, handling thousands of metric tons of critical cargo despite seasonal and operational challenges.
In recent weeks, Star Shipping Pakistan executed two large-scale cargo handling projects, demonstrating its operational resilience and logistics capabilities at the country’s busiest seaports. The first project involved the discharge of a combined cargo of over 12,900 metric tons at Karachi Port. The second, a high-volume loading operation at Port Qasim, was completed under the pressing conditions of Pakistan’s monsoon season.
At Karachi Port, Star Shipping’s operations department managed the discharge of 4,939.70 metric tons of Ammonium Nitrate and 7,962.00 metric tons of Rail Steel, arriving from China and Vietnam. The discharge was completed on schedule, with strict adherence to safety protocols—particularly critical due to the hazardous nature of the ammonium nitrate cargo.
This complex operation showcased the company’s expertise in handling both bulk chemical substances and dense steel materials, requiring different technical approaches, equipment configurations, and port coordination. Visuals from the port show large stacks of bundled rail steel meticulously arranged in vessel holds, while teams on deck directed cargo flow under tight operational windows.
The logistics team at Star Shipping extended its appreciation to the operations department for its dedication, highlighting the synchronized efforts required to maintain safety and efficiency throughout the discharge phase.
At Port Qasim, Star Shipping undertook another significant operation—this time under monsoon conditions. Heavy rains can disrupt port activity in Pakistan, but the company managed to load an extensive number of packaged goods across multiple units without delay. The photos show hundreds of yellow industrial sacks and palletized cargo being loaded under gray skies, underscoring the urgency and complexity involved.
The company operates as a general agent at both Karachi Port and Port Qasim, where it provides a full suite of ship agency services. These include vessel clearance documentation, cargo customs facilitation, husbandry services, crew changes, and supply sourcing. The aim, according to company sources, is to minimize vessel idle time and prevent cost overruns due to port delays.
“With a commitment to safety, efficiency, and timely delivery, Star Shipping ensures that your goods reach their destination without complications,” the company noted in its project report. “By taking care of the administrative aspects of logistics, the company allows clients to concentrate on their core business priorities.”
The Port Qasim operation also demonstrated the company’s ability to maintain high service standards under adverse weather conditions. Staff supervised loading directly at the quayside, adjusting schedules to account for weather changes while maintaining continuous communication with port authorities and ship crews.
With cargo volumes increasing and regional logistics under strain due to weather patterns and global supply disruptions, these completed operations offer a glimpse into how experienced logistics firms manage complexity on the ground. In both Karachi and Port Qasim, Star Shipping appears to be reinforcing its standing as a go-to partner for high-volume, technically sensitive, or time-critical maritime freight solutions in Pakistan.
Both projects were executed without reported incidents or delays—an outcome that’s not guaranteed during peak monsoon season.
